  Alcalde Field Day 2008 presented us with a beautiful day in Northern New Mexico to explore the NMSU Research Center in Alcalde, NM. SCMG attending learned about double croping vegetables and interplanting with green forage crops such as turnips, vetch and oats. Fruit tree irrigation & pruning were demonstrated and discussed. A very interesting medicinal herb garden also attracted much attention from master gardeners. Hoop house demonstrations using PVC irrigation pipes. Chicken coops on wheels that are easily relocated for happier poultry was demonstrated: and the chickens were very cooperative! A wonderful lunch was served and lots of visiting was had by all visitors to the Center
