Weed Science at ASC-Farmington
College of Agriculture and Home Economics

Welcome to ‘Weed Science’ research conducted by Richard N. Arnold, College Professor at New Mexico State University’s Agricultural Science Center – Farmington located approximately eight miles southwest of Farmington, NM. The 253 acre research facility is leased from The Navajo Nation and is located on the Navajo Agricultural Products Industry project.

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has become more stringent with regard to research data required for pesticide approval. Thus, it has become critical that NMSU Agricultural Science Centers work closely with commercial companies developing new pesticides, in order to obtain the research data required by EPA. This cooperation will benefit the Agricultural Industry of the state and assist EPA pesticide registration.

Research is funded by the United State Department of Agriculture (USDA) via the Hatch program, the State of New Mexico through general appropriations and various chemical companies. These funding sources plus the cooperation of agencies and industry are essential to the success of the ‘Weed Science’ research program.
