The Department of Plant and Environmental Sciences, formerly Agronomy and Horticulture, was formed in 1986 from the merging of the Crop and Soil Science department with the Horticulture department. The department consists of 28 faculty, including 11 off-campus faculty with exclusive research appointments.
There are 2 regents professors, 13 professors, 5 associate professors, and 8 assistant professors. The average teaching appointment of the faculty is 25% with 75% research appointment. The department offers 3 B.S. degrees, 3 M.S. degrees, and 1 Ph.D. degree with various options within these degrees.
